Glad you went, Lena. I would love to go to the DC show but I already had plans for that week. I know it is going to be all the way live. I hope I get to see him somewhere before the tour is over. I believe he mentioned going overseas this summer. Bummer.

Well, it looks like Birmingham is in on the action. The tour is headed there July 17 at Alys Stephens Center. Birmingham news outlets are reporting it and it is posted on Lalah's promotional site.

That should be great show. It would be great if they recorded one of the concerts to be aired on TV One or Centric.

I'm baaack! So much has been captured on Facebook until I don't think I need to do anything else. I love all the videos and it affirms how perfect the Ruben & Lalah duo is but it makes me rather sad knowing that our city missed the opportunity to have the show. *sigh*

I like the write up as well of the person that posted the video..The article is very long if you want to read it, I'm posting only the excerpts about Ruben... Arnott’s Arts & Ideas Diary: Installment 1 BY Chris Arnott | www.newhavenindependent.org/index.php/archives/entry/arnotts_arts_ideas_diary_part_one/id_68227 "You could find just about everyone else there as well. The crowd was estimated by New Haven police to be around 40,000 people. That may well be a festival record—the only other A&I show that would seem to come close would be Little Richard back in 1998. Sure puts the lie to any carping that A&I is for some mythic group of elitist culture types. Last year, the fest set records for its ticketed shows, demonstrating the largest economic impact in its 19-year history. This year it’s setting attendance records for its free shows The show itself belonged to Studdard. Hathaway did fine, but Studdard sang the most and moved the crowd the most, leading sing-alongs and making dynamic dramatic pauses that brought prolonged shouts and cheers and whoops and applause. His repertoire (some of which turned into duets with Hathways) ranged from Michael Jackson’s “Rock With You” to “Superstar” by the New Haven-raised Karen & Richard Carpenter. Studdard ruled, but he used Hathaway’s touring band to do it. I knew Studdard only from his early American Idol days as a smooth-standards crooner, and was unprepared to see him front such a kick-ass band. The drummer was fast and propulsive, the bass deep and rich, the guitar versatile and fluid. It was the keyboardist who fascinated me most—he’d lugged along a Hammond Organ, with accompanying cabinet, but only used that gorgeous instrument for a few songs. He relied instead on a Yamaha Motif ES7 electric keyboard for most of the set. Curious choice." Also here's another song found around the web from the concert: www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152314106756107

Oooh thanks, Jo. New Haven definitely showed up. The writer thought all of the band members were Lalah's but Alvin was with them. Also, sometimes John Jackson does keyboards but I'm not sure if he was there or not.
Here is a crowd picture:

I love the photos and especially love that one. It looks like he is getting his groove on. The New Haven concert was huge and sounds like a blast.

Ruben Studdard and Lalah Hathaway make terrific team at Birmingham's Alys Stephens Center
BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway. Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell. Patti Austin and James Ingram. Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson.
It remains to be seen if Ruben Studdard and Lalah Hathaway will join that list, claiming a place among the great duet partners of R&B. They're worthy contenders, though, if Thursday's concert in Birmingham is any indication. Read More: www.al.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2014/07/ruben_studdard_lalah_hathaway.html#incart_river

Well, for once I can say May Calurso nailed it. Was fortunate to witness all the great things she described. It was awesome and Ruben and Lalah couldn't have been any better. It was magical ( of course I'm not biased) and I had a great time. If they come near your town, please do not miss it. Well worth it!

Great review and b'ham fan, it sounds like you had a great time. I could see them becoming regular duet partners. Their voices compliment each other very well.

Good for you Birmingham Fan. I know it was awesome for him to perform before his hometown folks. Camilla said:I think they could do well occasionally performing together. I would love for them to do an original song together. Their voices together on a really good song would be magical. I sure messed this post up trying to double quote.
