The rotating headliners sound interesting. It sounds interesting but I wouldn't want to be the artists that come behind Fantasia. She is a crowd-pleaser and will probably be a big draw during the first few months. Everybody coming after her will get compared to her attendance-wise and sales-wise. She connects so well with the emotions of a song and will absolutely kill with jazz. Smart way to kick of the show though.

'After Midnight' is getting rave reviews. Fantasia continues to shine.
Excerpt from one of the reviews:
But the spotlight is on Fantasia, whose numbers include “Stormy Weather,” “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love,” and a show stopping “Zaz Zuh Zaz.” Fantasia has now matured beyond her “Summertime”-”American Idol”– and hip hop albums of the last couple of years. This is her groove, and I hope she knows it. She is literally channeling and updating Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington. She is so the real thing. There must be a market for this in a world of crass, amusical pop ( you know who I mean). And she’s only going to get better with age. READ MORE

I've heard great things about this show. AFTER MIDNIGHT to Open TONYS, Sting, Carole King to Perform? More Tony Details!
The New York Post's Michael Riedel has revealed details into what's ahead for Broadway's biggest night - the 68th ANNUAL TONY AWARDS, which will be broadcast live from New York's Radio City Music Hall on June 8th on CBS.
According to Riedel, the musical "After Midnight" has landed the opening performance slot, a feat highly coveted by producers because that is when the most viewers are tuned in and ratings are highest. The segment will feature the show's current star, American Idol champ Fantasia, as well as returning star k.d. lang and Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight, who will join the show this summer. ^^^ Great. I wanted them deleted. I tried and it had to be done by an Admin and I didn't bother asking. I figured that it would eventually get done. Not much activity on the boards but I'm glad we keep it open for those that don't use Twitter and Facebook.
After Midnight! It looks like I will be tuned in for the Tonys. I was hoping to get to see Fantasia during her run but it doesn't look like I will. I'll be in NY later this year so hopefully the show will still be going on. I'm sure whoever is there will be great. I hear that the dancers are spectacular.

I love the Wiz. A lot of guessing online about singers but I'm thinking Dorothy will be a broadway person. Looking forward to it.

That's great news about Stephanie. I wouldn't be surprised if she's the only known cast member. I'm even more excited about the show.

That's great news about Stephanie. I wouldn't be surprised if she's the only known cast member. I'm even more excited about the show. I'm guessing that she will be the star and has Broadway experience and since, from what I understand, the show is going back to Broadway, the rest will also be those with stage experience. Maybe continuing to Broadway from the show??? I guess we'll know in the next few months but I'm sure they are already rounding out the cast now. I wonder how much they will stay true to the original production. I remember seeing a Broadway production of the show quite some time ago but I don't remember how much of a role Aunt Em had but surely we'll get a show-stopping song from Stephanie. I remember that the show was outstanding but for some reason the role that I remember most was Evilleen. Not sure who played the role in the show that show but she was as great. Here's her clip from the movie.

Oh my gosh! She is the perfect Dorothy. I'm really feeling her as Dorothy, Stephanie as Auntie Em and David Alan as the Lion. I'm not quite on board with the others but I'm sure they'll be great.

Adorable, indeed. I'll be happy to create a The Wiz designated thread. I'm very excited about this show. Camilla, I was a little bit surprised at the pick for Evillene , but I can see Mary J doing great in the role. That is such a memorable role until the original character is kind of etched in my brain. Now that I've gotten used to the idea, I'm glad they went with a different type. I love love love the idea of David Alan Grier.
It's funny that none of the people that online sites were casting for the parts have been added. I think if they had gone with the names that people were guessing, the show would have been too predictable. Still have the Tin Man and Scarecrow to be named. I'm hoping for Broadway actors for those role but we'll see.
